The whole point of the LayoutPal website, is to show you how to build the front page of your site, using the flexible layout grid.
To follow these videos you will need a Genesis child theme that has the flexible layout grid built into the home page. Some Genesis child themes do NOT have flexible layouts.
Who are these tutorials for?
You don’t need to be a programmer to follow these tutorials. But you will need a good basic understanding of how to use WordPress.
In the first few videos I’ll be using the Infinity Pro theme by StudioPress. But there are several other themes that have the flexible layout grid built into the front page.
The widgets I’ll be using
I will be using three main widgets to build my front page layouts…
- The text widget.
- The Genesis featured post widget.
- And the Genesis eNews extended widget.
What skills do you need to do to follow these guides?
First you need to become skilled using the three widgets I mentioned. The next step is to really understand how the layout grid works in your theme. Once you understand how the widgets work, and how the layout grid works, you can then build a collection of CSS selectors that target each individual row or section of your home page.
At this point you’ve learned how to display your content on your front page. And you will be able to layout your content in a grid. You will also have the CSS selectors you need to target, then style any element you wish.
You’re now ready to style your homepage
You can add CSS styles to your home page by writing hand coded CSS, or you could use the premium, point and click plugin that I use.
You can get great results quickly
By learning a few basic skills you can make your site look just as good, if not better than, most of your competitors websites.
What types of sites will I be building?
The sites I’ll be building are ideal for digital agencies, freelance web designers, content writers and copywriters, as well as SEO and social media experts.
